Meet the pastor of UUMC

  Scott Allen Johnson became the pastor of Union United Methodist Church on June 18, 2008. He is a native of the Conway area and proudly calls Horry County “home”. He is a 1997 graduate of Aynor High School and a 2003 graduate of Coastal Carolina University. After completing his course work at Coastal, Scott relocated to Atlanta, GA to attend Emory University where he obtained a Master’s of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology. In June of 2009 Scott was ordained as an elder within the United Methodist Church. Scott currently lives in Conway with his soul mate Amanda,son Wyatt and daughter Emory. He enjoys creating music and art, learning, being outdoors, surfing, fishing, and hunting.

2000-2003: Pastor to the Bethel, Oak Grove, and Sampit UMC Charge in Andrews, SC
2003-2006 Student at Candler School of Theology, Emory University
2003 Volunteer, Project Take Charge (homeless prevention agency)
2004 Volunteer, Hagar’s House (abused women’s shelter)
2005 Assistant Chaplain at the Georgia Tech Wesley Foundation
2006-2008: Associate Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach.
2008-current: Pastor of Union United Methodist Church

 

We interviewed Scott for this article with 5 questions. Here is what he said:

What is your favorite part of your job?  "Helping people connect their head and heart to the Lord."

What is your favorite way to relax? "Either playing music, fishing, exercising, or surfing."

Favorite authors?  "Tough to choose. As for the classics: C.S. Lewis, St. Augustine, St. Athanasius...and current: Donald Miller, Andy Stanley, etc"

Favorite musician or band? "Anything from Living Sacrifice, David Crowder, Ascend the Hill, Explosions in the Sky, Johnny Cash, Ben Harper, Stavesacre...I could keep going."

What is the one thing you wish you could tell the world? "You cannot make God stop loving you. It's as true as gravity or any other irrefutable law."
